“Small match but big victory” for savors Eric Roy

The coach returned to his players’ victory this Sunday against (2-0).

Aware that his team suffered a lot against Le Havre on Sunday for the 7th day of Ligue 1, Brest coach Eric Roy considered that the 2-0 success was “a small match but a big victory” for the club.

“We know what awaits us following our European matches. We know it’s complicated”he first explained, while his team won 4-0 in Salzburg on Tuesday in the Champions League. “We had the impression that we didn’t have a lot of legs and yet we had changed five players who hadn’t played too much in the last match. But even these, we felt they were in physical difficulty”he admitted, while his team often suffered.

“It’s true that it’s a small match at the end but a big victory”he added, while his team, with this third success of the season in L1, moved back to 10th place.

“We have to be aware that we have to do much better”

Out of the question for him, therefore, to “be choosy”. “I love winning matches when we are not very good. This means that the day we are better, we will necessarily still have good results”he even slipped. “Today, it’s true that the team showed self-sacrifice, resilience and, indeed, realism on both surfaces. But hey, afterwards, we also have to, if we have to move forward, be aware that we have to do much better”he acknowledged.

Roy also welcomed the return of Pierre Lees-Melou after five months without playing due to a fractured right fibula in midfield. It was “pretty good for a first match”he judged about the player who entered at the start of the second act. “It’s true that I didn’t plan to play a half. I had rather planned to bring him in in the 60th (but) in relation to the forces present, in relation to the content of our first period, we really needed to find a player in the defense capable of taking out the balls, of giving a little more security, peace too”explained the coach.

“Afterwards, Pierre, it’s Pierre. It will simply gain strength. The main thing is that he no longer has pain and that his injury is behind him.”he concluded.
