Ex-McLaren driver compares Norris to F1 legends

David Coulthard compares Lando Norris to the big names in F1 after being amazed by the Briton’s success in Singapore.

Lando Norris truly dominated the last round in Singapore, leading the Grand Prix from start to finish, before winning by more than twenty seconds ahead of Max Verstappen.

A correction inflicted on Red Bull, which allowed the young Englishman to gain precious points from his rival in the championship.

This success was the McLaren driver’s third in his career, after triumphing at Miami and Zandvoort. He also made another multiple winner in Formula 1 react with the Woking team.

In harmony with the car

Impressed by the performance delivered by Lando Norris in the streets of Singapore, David Coulthard did not fail to praise this victory.

“What a performance, observed Coulthard after the ordeal. Man and machine were in perfect harmony. Lando is so humble and approachable, he doesn’t realize how awesome and meaningful his performances are right now. »

“He was like that from the first free practice session on Friday, he continues. He had the upper hand over Oscar
[Piastri]who did a really solid job to end this weekend with a podium. »

Norris compared to the greatest

Mika Häkkinen’s ex-teammate then boldly compared Norris’ current level of performance to that displayed by some legends of the discipline with whom he shared the track.

“I want to put him in the same basket as [Ayrton] Senna,
[Michael] Schumacher, or even [Lewis] Hamilton on his best days, when he delivers performances of this type,

he adds again. We can all win a Grand Prix with a bit of luck, but this was exceptional. »

The record of the winner of the last Grand Prix, however, is still far from rivaling those of the drivers cited by David Coulthard. Norris, however, still has many good years to cover in the discipline.

Verstappen’s rival is currently 52 points behind the Dutchman in the Drivers’ standings with six rounds remaining. In the event of a world title, Norris would win his first title at just 25 years old, slightly earlier than the first two mentioned did during their careers.
