The sky is darkening for Alpine Racing employees in Viry-Châtillon

A few days before a strategic decision by Renault Group to stop F1 engines at the historic Viry-Châtillon site, the sky is getting darker by the day for Alpine Racing employees who still have no news from management.

Since the meeting of a staff delegation on September 20 with the CEO of the Renault group, Luca de Meo, staff representatives say they are “more mobilized than ever” just a few days before the consultative vote on Monday, September 30, when the Alpine Racing transformation plan could be implemented.

The staff representatives – through a press release published this Thursday evening – indicate that they have still not received any response from the Renault group since their exchange with Luca de Meo: “A few days before a strategic decision by Renault Group to stop French F1 engines at the historic Viry-Châtillon site, the sky is getting darker by the day.” can we read in the press release of Alpine Racing Social and Economic Committee.

“Without any response at the time of this publication, since the meeting of a staff delegation on September 20 with Mr. De Meo, staff representatives remain more mobilized than ever.”

“During this exchange, a proposal was brought and presented by the delegation. Participate in the 2026 championship as an Alpine team powered by our Alpine engine:

  • Commit to the competitiveness of the Power Unit on track in 2026.
  • Commit to a top sporting result.
  • Leave the choice to our governance to switch to an alternative path, once the car has been tested in 2026.”

“This proposal is also accompanied by a total commitment from all the site’s employees to the brand and the assurance that the implementation of the F1 project will be done in parallel with the innovation projects proposed last July by management.”

“During this meeting, an area of reflection was also discussed by our delegation concerning the importance and the challenge of developing its engine internally for all manufacturers. Indeed, the new regulations planned for 2026 will promote the integration of the engine with the chassis, further accentuating the differences in technical choices between manufacturers.”

“The impact of “Energy Management” (energy management between electric motor, battery and thermal engine) will also be significant in 2026 and should be considered as a major development axis.”

“This regulation will therefore require a much stronger convergence with the chassis, as well as a need for technological independence. The competition has also moved closer to Power Units manufacturers to better prepare for this transition, like Aston Martin, RedBull and Audi.”

“The finish line is approaching, after the consultative vote on Monday, September 30, the Alpine Racing France transformation plan could be implemented.”

“The consequences of this abandonment would be numerous, between the loss of the attractiveness of the Viry-Châtillon site, the flight of skills and talents, but also the disappearance of a global influence and of our French heritage.”

“Our passion and determination are still intact, let’s preserve the DNA of our F1, support us.”

On September 20, after meeting with the CEO of the Renault group, Luca de Meo, the Alpine Racing staff representatives had welcomed “constructive discussions”, but it is clear that three days before the deadline, the employees are still in the dark in Viry.
