There is movement at Red Bull in 2025. After the departure of Adrian Newey, the Austrian team decided to remove Sergio Perez from his seat to place one of the drivers from its academy: Liam Lawson. A choice as much sporting as it is financial. Because the New Zealander will receive much less in salary than his predecessor.
After losing the constructors' title due to the poor sporting performances of Sergio Perez, Red Bull had to react. Max Verstappen therefore has a new teammate, like him from the Red Bull academy: Liam Lawson. The latter will experience his first season as a starter in Formula 1 after a first stint in a few Grand Prix in 2023, replacing Daniel Ricciardo in the Racing Bulls then in 2024, still in the seat of the Australian. And for this high-risk starting position at Red Bull, the New Zealander will receive 6.5 million euros according to estimates from the Business Book GP site. Either a little over €500,000 per monthwithout bonuses.
Big saving for Red Bull
This salary represents a big saving for the Austrian team. This would have paid $19.5 million in 2024 to Sergio Perez, bonuses included. Savings undoubtedly necessary after having signed a large check to the Mexican to exfiltrate him without trial. In the ranking of Formula 1 driver salaries, Liam Lawson is 12th. He earns a little more than an established driver like Esteban Ocon at Haas or Oscar Piastri at McLaren, who is nevertheless constructors' world champion with McLaren in 2024 and already has two victories to his name. Within the Red Bull pool, Liam Lawson earns much more than Yuki Tsunoda and Isack Hadjar at Racing Bulls. He is obviously a long way from Max Verstappen and his estimated 72 million euros this season.
