“This violence, with the uninhibited use of extremely dangerous weapons, is very shocking,” reacted the prosecutor.

In Seine-Saint-Denis, intentional homicides linked to drug trafficking, sometimes referred to as narchomicides, increased sharply in 2024, with 15 deaths compared to four the previous year, announced the Bobigny public prosecutor's office on Friday January 24. Prosecutor Eric Mathais deplored a “violence with uninhibited use of extremely dangerous weapons”.
-“Trafficking, primarily in narcotics, the underground economy and dirty money structure the territory, ruin the republican pact and put the department in mourning”he underlined during a speech in court on the occasion of the solemn back-to-school hearing, in the presence of the Minister of Justice, Gérald Darmanin.
Three of these crimes were committed during a single weekend in May, in Sevran. In July, three young men were killed by firearms in two separate shootings in the prefecture town of Bobigny.
To this grim picture, we must also add an increase in the number of attempted intentional homicides against a backdrop of drug trafficking: no less than 73 cases in 2024, compared to 56 in 2023.
If Seine-Saint-Denis remains the most criminogenic department in France, drug banditry is especially raging in the Marseille region, where the gang war for control of deal points has cost the lives of 24 people in 2024 , however, half as much as in 2023.
