Algerian international striker Andy Delort, who plays for Mouloudia Algiers, could return to Montpellier, in search of a new center forward to replace Nigerian Akor Adams who is about to join Sevilla FC, the Hérault club announced on Friday. “He is on the list of four or five players that we targeted with the recruitment unit. We have to find a suitable player directly because he has to be ready, he has to be good and he has to not be expensive. There are players that we called to survey them, to find out if they were interested”indicated Montpellier coach Jean-Louis Gasset at a press conference.

The Algerian international (33 years old), winner of the African Cup of Nations in 2019, joined Mouloudia, one of the Algiers clubs, in September, due to a lack of an offer from a Ligue 1 club and notably from Montpellier. Delort, originally from Sète, distinguished himself during three seasons (2018-21) at Montpellier, where he scored 40 goals in 95 Ligue 1 matches. In the summer of 2021, the striker, promoted to team captain Hérault, had forced his departure for , breaking the trust of President Laurent Nicollin.
