Slowly, but surely, Nice is overtaking its competitors one by one in the race for Europe. On the pitch of a great team from Reims, the Aiglons scored a convincing victory which allowed them to overtake Lyon and Lille to move up to 4th place in Ligue 1. Conversely, with a series of poor results, the Champenois mired in the second half of the ranking.
With only one defeat in its last 13 championship matches, the Riviera club is the team in good form in France. And to leave Auguste-Delaune with the 3 points, the Niçois produced a very clean copy. As often this season, it was Evann Guessand who launched his team with a powerful helmet kick from a corner from Jonathan Clauss (0-1, 28th). A short-lived lead for the Gym. A few minutes later, Junya Ito followed a clearance from Dante to deceive Marcin Bulka a few meters from the goal (1-1, 34th).
A double for Laborde
The meeting changed just before the break. Caught by two Reims defenders, Gaëtan Laborde collapsed in the area and the referee awarded the attacker a penalty. The former Rennais himself transformed it with a daring panenka (1-2, 44th). Not stingy with their efforts, Luka Elsner’s players pushed to get back to the level of their opponents. However, it was ultimately Laborde who scored a double on a wonderful hidden pass from Sofiane Diop (1-3, 64th).
While Reims had reduced the gap with a nice long shot from Mamadou Diakhon who had just come on (2-3, 71st), Franck Haise was able to count on his replacements. Coming off the bench, Ali Abdi confirmed his team’s success at the end of the game. Taking advantage of a poor alignment of the defense, Mohamed-Ali Cho served the Tunisian who finished at the far post (2-4, 86th).
Eight days after Rennes, the OGCN therefore achieves a second victory in 2025 in the elite. A journey in Ligue 1 which may surprise you given the European performances of Nice. But Nice is only one point from the podium and three points from OM who play this Saturday evening against Rennes.
