Andrea Stella knows that McLaren F1 will have to take solutions to prevent its drivers, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, from putting obstacles in the way of their quest for a possible title. And the team principal is also aware that it would be worse if they are both in contention for the crown.
“First of all, I hope you're right. We really want to have this kind of problem” Stella said. “We worked very hard to have a race-winning car and two race-winning drivers.”
“And we know that in Formula 1 it always comes with complications. But these are complications that we have already faced this season to a certain extent. I think we have always approached this issue consistently.”
“Both drivers have always been fully aware that we need to find solutions that, firstly, put the interests of the team first and secondly those of the drivers. So far, I think this process has been very “It's a process we intend to continue next season.”
The Italian wants to succeed in fighting for both titles in 2025 and this problem would then be a luxury: “We call it a problem, but it's more of an opportunity. Our goal is to make sure that, from a technical standpoint, we give Lando and Oscar a car that can compete for the championship.”
“Because if we had done this at the start of the season, without having some poor performances in the first races of the season, we would have been able to fight for the drivers' championship for longer.”
