The navigator ended up without the cockpit of his Imoca while trying to rest in the southern seas.
Guirec Soudée occupies 29th place in the Vendée Globe rankings this Sunday at the helm of Freelance.com. The Breton was trying to rest on his berth in the seas of the Deep South, under Australia, when a wave threw him a very nasty turn.
Thrown into the boat four or five meters
“I was sleeping, I felt so good, and I felt a wave hitting hard. I fell from my bunk several times but then I was ejected like in a car accident. I crossed my boat four or five meters. I don't really know what happened but I really hurt my neck, shoulders and head. I have a bit of pain everywhere.”confessed the sailor showing his injuries to the camera.

Guirec Soudée has not been spared from problems since leaving Sables-d'Olonne on November 10. A week after being forced to climb the mast to resolve sail problems, he encountered difficult sailing conditions at the start of the week. A swell of 10 to 12 meters high and gusts of up to 70 knots undermined its physical resistance. “I spent more than 20 hours locked in my boat,” he detailed. He was going in surfs at over 30 knots, that had never happened to me before. At a certain point, even when reducing speed to maximum, the boat is no longer controllable.”

Morale remains strong despite everything
But the mess of worries, the lot of all competitors in the Vendée Globe, do not dampen the morale of the 31-year-old sailor who is taking advantage of this experience at the controls of a monohull dating from 2007 and an older generation which has a lot of struggling to compete with the best boats on the field: “Even if it's not the most comfortable sea in the world, even if I'm not serene every day, it's really nice to experience that. Nature offers us a magnificent spectacle.”
