Formula 1 | 'Not ready' for insults, Lawson left social media

Liam Lawson has revealed that he no longer goes on social networks after suffering insults from fans of Daniel Ricciardo, whom he replaced at RB in 2024, and Sergio Pérez after on-track struggles between him and the Mexican driver, whom he will replace at Red Bull in 2025.

“Originally I saw a lot of abuse because I didn't expect it, I wasn't ready for it” Lawson said. “To be honest, I don't go on social media at all anymore. I post messages for my fans, but I don't scroll or look at messages.”

“You prepare for F1 to be ready as a driver, and then you don't really expect those kinds of things, or you don't really prepare for them, because you just focus on driving. “

Lawson fell out with Sergio Pérez and was openly criticized by Fernando Alonso after battles with both drivers. He explains that he did not particularly seek to attack these drivers precisely, because he simply wanted to put in a convincing performance.

“There's nothing personal with anyone, but I've had six races to show something. I'm not trying to be too aggressive to prove anything, but I'm not going to either no longer run differently because someone has experience or is respected in the sport.”

Lawson is not worried about his adaptation to the RB21 as he believes a Formula 1 driver must always adapt to his car: “As far as riding styles go, I don’t really know if I really believe that such a thing exists.”

“I think there are certain things you like a car to do, but I also think I spent a lot of time developing this car, as a junior and as a reserve over the last couple years, and I feel like I understand the way the car drives pretty well.”

“But I also don't believe in the idea that this car doesn't suit your driving style. I think as drivers, we are professionals, we have to adapt to what we drive.”
