It's done ! Aston Martin F1 regained the points after 4 scoreless races thanks to Fernando Alonso's 7th place this evening in Qatar.
Despite numerous complaints about his top speed on the radio during the Grand Prix, Alonso managed to score 6 points for his true 400th Grand Prix.
“A very good Sunday for us, finishing seventh and with six points scored. The car seemed a little stronger than yesterday and we capitalized on some of the action ahead of us with a few retirements and penalties, but we were Right place at the right time tonight is the right time to score points for the team and I hope we can continue this momentum in Abu Dhabi and finish the season on a good note.”
Lance Stroll retired from the race after a chaotic start and a collision with Alex Albon during the first lap.
“The car wasn't handling well from the start of the race. I locked the front left at turn 2, which is strange because it's not really a corner where you brake a lot. Then at turn 5 , I touched Alex [Albon]which was completely unintentional. I wasn't trying to race him, I was just trying to maintain my line on the inside of the corner, but I understeered a lot.”
“I think maybe my tires weren't working properly because I couldn't do anything about it. It's a shame to retire in the race, but we still have Abu Dhabi next weekend.”
