Lando Norris isn't very happy with his first day in Las Vegas. The McLaren F1 driver is pleased with his pace on the fast laps, which propelled him into second place in FP2, but he is concerned about performance on the long runs.
“It was like this, like that. I think the low fuel pace was OK. I was shocked by the high fuel runs, so there's a lot to look at.” Norris worries.
“Those kinds of combinations of things and the issues we're having with graining up front, I'm just not very good at it. It's always a little difficult for me.”
The Brit sums up his day with two conclusions: “We had a lot of time to work on it. Two halves in fact. A good pace on low fuel, and a bad pace on a full tank!”
Oscar Piastri thinks he could have done better than his eighth place, but he too sees work to be done: “It was difficult, similar to last year. Every lap we do is better but we knew what to expect. It was an interesting day, the pace is okay, but we need to do a little better.”
“If you don't do the perfect lap, you lose a lot of time. When the red flag came, I was doing a better time than what I did, but we still have to do a little better and I have to make some laps where I don't waste time.”
The Australian makes Mercedes the favorite team, but he expects to see changes in the hierarchy tomorrow: “Mercedes seems fast, very fast. Ferrari is strong, but we are in the fight. Mercedes had a very good day but we will see what awaits us tomorrow.”
