The year 2024 will go down in the annals of MotoGP as the year when Repsol Honda hit rock bottom. The team, once dominant and synonymous with success, finished the season in last place in the constructors' standings, an unprecedented result in its history.

It's now official: Repsol Hondaonce the jewel of MotoGP, ends the 2024 season in last place in the championshipthus signing the worst performance in its history. This abrupt decline coincides with the end of its legendary partnership with Repsolafter three decades of triumphs. A farewell tinged with historical bitterness.

For the first time, Repsol Honda completes a season without the slightest podium. Joan Mir and Luke Mariniofficial drivers, could not do better than anonymous performances, finishing respectively in the last two places among the starting drivers. Even the sprint races could not save the honor, the best performance being a ninth place of Mir in Jerez.

Even more surprising, the team was outperformed by its satellite, LCR Hondawho finishes penultimate but in front of the factory team. This setback underlines a collective shipwreck for Hondawho recorded neither victory nor podium all season.

Honda Castrol, the new takeoff?

This season closes a glorious era: since 1995Repsol and Honda have formed one of the most formidable alliances in MotoGP. Together they conquered 15 world titles with legends such as Mick Doohan, Valentino Rossi, Nicky Hayden, Casey Stoner and Marc Marquez. But past successes seem far away as the team goes through a deep crisis.

From 2025Castrol will become the main sponsor of Honda. Already present on LCR motorcycles, the British brand of lubricants will now appear in the official team. It remains to be seen whether this change will revive a drifting team.

With the end of this legendary alliance, Honda must now rebuild on new foundations. Will the team succeed in regaining its former prestige? The next few months will be crucial to answering this question. A page turns, but the story of Honda in MotoGP is far from over.
