the 2025 calendar is revealed

From March 21 to November 22, around fifteen drivers will compete on 7 different circuits for a total of 14 races. Beyond the official sessions which make up each weekend, there are 15 days of private tests which will also be organized by the championship…

For the 2025 vintage, the organizers have made some changes. So, no trip planned to Barcelona, Qatar, or Abu Dhabi, but new developments in China, Canada, and Las Vegas. All this, always on the same weekends as Formula 1…

Academy, the 2025 calendar

In the family of categories linked to F1, only the F1 Academy had not presented the calendar for its 2025 season. This is now done. Thus, as for this 2024 season, 7 meetings will await the drivers and their teams. The season will kick off on March 21 in China, and the entire field will have to wait until November 22 and a stay in Las Vegas to ring out the final clap, 8 long months of competition. Obviously this will lead to significant breaks, which can go up to almost a month and a half between two meetings… But the drivers will not be resting, since the organizers have announced 15 days of private tests for the season at come, compared to less than ten this season.

If you are an insider you have noticed, the opening round and the closing round will be new for next season. If China can be justified on a sporting level, with an interesting route conducive to a few battles, it is a safe bet that the choice of Las Vegas is more commercial and political than anything else. And as they say “never two without three”, these two routes are accompanied by the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve de Montréal, which will also appear on the calendar. Here too the choice can be debated, on a track not very conducive to battles although very popular with drivers and fans.

Three circuits are coming, and so three must go. Those ousted are therefore Barcelona, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi. For the first, it is a real sporting loss, because although it brings little battle, it remains an almost unmissable event in each category of accession to Formula 1. For the second, difficult to to decide given that the drivers have not yet driven there during official sessions, but it also remains a traditional and technical route which can bring its share of challenge. Finally, the last ousted suffers the greater attraction of Las Vegas, the destination of Abu Dhabi being mainly, again, to give visibility to the F1 Academy on a major weekend for Formula 1.

Susie Wolff, director of the F1 Academy

I would like to thank the promoters for their enthusiasm, support, and for joining us on our journey to create opportunities for women to thrive at all levels of our sport. Ending our season in Las Vegas will be an iconic moment, and its addition to the calendar is testament to the wealth of support we receive from Formula 1 and Liberty Media.

Overall, the calendar remains questionable. Indeed, with the exception of Zandvoort, all the other rounds of the championship are outside Europe. A problem for an F4 championship which aims to be a stage of preparation for other categories of accession to Formula 1. Because if the F2 and F3 drivers will also visit some of these circuits, others will not be visible by the drivers only on the sole condition of reaching the premier category… Due to its wish to be attached to Formula 1, the F1 Academy suffers from the sporting superiority of F2, F3, and even the Porsche Supercup, which all take priority over the European rounds. To get rid of it, we would have to return to meetings independent of Formula 1, which does not seem to be in the plans of either the FIA or the FOM…
