Formula 1 | Wolff admits to struggling with the word 'leader'

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has revealed he has personal difficulties – surprisingly with the word 'leader'.

Wolff has led the Brackley team since 2013, when he became part-owner of the F1 team. The Austrian led his team to great successes including eight constructors' titles and seven drivers' titles.

“I really struggle with the word 'leader' because a leader to me is standing above your people, not with them.”

“There are so many leaders in our organization, and everyone is trying to be the best in their role.”

“I try to contribute as much as possible as a team principal; Lewis is a leader as a driver; James Allison is a leader with his engineers. So many other people are leaders in the organization.”

“Only if we do a good job in our positions and share these goals will we succeed.”

“We have this metaphor: we're not like a group of five-year-olds playing football, all running after the ball, but we let the ball roll. We each stay where we are, in our center of competence.”
