Arriving at Williams to replace the American Logan Sargeant during the Italian Grand Prix at Monza (August 30 – September 1), Franco Colapinto caused a sensation despite an underperforming car. But at the twilight of the 2024 season, the Argentinian does not yet have a steering wheel for next season. And his situation could well relaunch a transfer window which seemed closed, after the signing of Gabriel Bortoleto at Sauber.

At Alpine, Colapinto rather than Doohan?

The French team Alpine would, according to the latest rumors from the paddock, be interested in the young Argentine driver. Next to Pierre Gasly, who cannot be removed in 2025, the vacant seat left by Esteban Ocon was promised to Jack Doohan. But the performance of Colapinto and his powerful South American sponsors could tip the scales.

Reserve driver at Alpine this season, Jack Doohan will therefore have to wait a while longer. At 21, the Australian driver has never won a major championship, but distinguished himself by finishing third in the 2023 Formula 2 season, after securing second place in Formula 3 in 2021.

Red Bull could help Colapinto

The visit of Christian Horner, team manager of the Red Bull Racing team, to the Williams motor home agitated Formula 1 followers. But while the theory of a replacement of Sergio Pérez by the young Argentinian was born, it's another story that caught the attention: what if Red Bull bought out Carlos Sainz's contract at Williams to allow the British team to keep Colapinto?

One thing is certain: Franco Colapinto is attracting the interest of many teams, and his place seems to be in Formula 1 and not elsewhere. “ With what he has shown so far, Franco proves that he deserves his place in » even said Lewis Hamilton at a press conference. Just that. There are three Grand Prix left for Colapinto to show once again that he deserves a seat next year.
