Lawson attracts the wrath of Pérez: “Not the right attitude!”

What can we say about Sergio Pérez’s home Grand Prix? Embodying the Mexican's lack of discernment on and off the track at a time of the season when the challenges of the team and around his own seat seem to exceed him, the Red Bull driver simply foundered.

Seventeenth at the finish, Pérez could hardly have known a more laborious National Grand Prix, ironically even finding himself involved in a wheel-to-wheel battle on the 19th.e turn against the man many announce as the main threat at the wheel in 2025, Liam Lawson. A battle lost by the Mexican, who found a muscular resistance against him which caused him damage to the side and the floor quite early in the race.

Enough to make the Red Bull driver particularly virulent in front of the microphones extended towards him once he got out of his car against the New Zealander, who also gave him a finger from the cockpit in a fit of mood.

“I was holding the maneuver in turn 4 and he was off the track and rushed like there was no car”complained Pérez in the press room. “I think he could have avoided the incident but he came back. Luckily I saw him and led the way, otherwise there would have been a huge accident. It wasn't necessary. We damaged both of our races. It was a little too much. »

“He doesn’t get any penalties either. He did the same with Fernando [Alonso]with Franco [Colapinto] at the end. There are no penalties, so none of this is his fault either…”

Pérez very critical of Lawson's attitude

Asked what he thinks in general about the way in which Liam Lawson, who seems supported by Helmut Marko, is handling his first steps in , Pérez does not beat around the bush.

“I have no relationship with him. I think the way he came to Formula 1 is not the right attitude. He needs to show a little more humility. When a two-time World Champion said things last weekend, he completely ignored it. It's like when you come to Formula 1, you're obviously very hungry, but you also have to be respectful, off the track and on the track. I don't think he's got the right attitude. I think he's a great driver and I hope for his sake he can take a step back and learn from it. »

“During his first two Grands Prix, he had a lot of incidents. I think there is a point where it can cost him too much, as it did this weekend. I just think he has to have the right attitude to say, 'OK, maybe I'm doing a little too much, I'm going to step back and start again.' Because if you don't learn from your mistakes, Formula 1 is a brutal world and it might not continue. »
