Formula 1 | Aston Martin F1 wants ‘legal’ talks with Newey

Mike Krack, the director of Aston Martin F1, wants to find out about the authorized exchanges with Adrian Newey while waiting for his position in March 2025. The Luxembourger would not want to break the rules of the notice period.

“I don’t know if we can exchange words.” Krack said. “I have to check with our legal department. I think you have to be very careful with these kinds of things. You know, we don’t want to get involved in any legal matters in the future. That wouldn’t be right.”

While his team is having a difficult time this year, Krack does not want to judge that it is a problem linked to the wind tunnel, because Mercedes uses the same one: “I think that would be too easy an excuse. Another team is using the same wind tunnel with less time in it. So it’s not an excuse.”

And even if it is taken into account in the performance deficit, he does not want to keep this argument: “It’s possible, but we’re still way behind this team. So maybe it’s a factor for them. Maybe it’s a factor for us, but I think with the same tool, We could do better.”

In any case, the wind tunnel debate is almost over since Aston Martin’s will be ready early next year. Krack nevertheless explains the difficulties that this will represent.

“If you’re a team in a construction process, it’s not just about installing the wind tunnel, it’s about having the technology, the methodology and how to do the testing. It’s the same for simulation. We have been a customer team for many years.”

“You have to build all these things in parallel, but if that’s the choice you make, you shouldn’t use it as an excuse afterwards. You have that part [la soufflerie] that needs to be developed, but you also have a car to develop and you shouldn’t use one to excuse the other.”
