Formula 1 | Aston Martin would be ‘stupid’ not to take inspiration from McLaren

Aston Martin will look at how McLaren has evolved its car to regularly improve performance. Mike Krack, the director, recognizes that his team wants to be inspired by what the Woking team has achieved with very effective developments for a little over a year.

“We study this question a lot” Krack said. “If you compare the pace, and you see when they made progress, you can correlate that with some of the improvements that are being reported, because we never see the whole picture.”

“There’s a certain correlation where you can say, ‘ok, this is what was changed, and what did that potentially do?’ When you see, for example, the evolution of Zandvoort, “There’s a little bit of progress here and there. You see how fine and complex these cars have become, so I think it would be stupid not to look at it.”

Krack draws a frustrating assessment of the fight against Mercedes, and he explains that the equation to be solved on single-seaters in 2024 is different from that in 2022: “We were level with Mercedes at the start of the season for the first few races, and then they won races.”

“It is therefore possible to make substantial progress with these regulations if we manage to stabilize the car and make it work as the drivers want. There is no pure aero downforce racing like that. was the case in the past Where it’s really difficult is that it’s more about getting the stability, but also the balance and the load.”
