While the United States GP will only take place in 2 weeks, Christian Horner spoke about the departure of Daniel Ricciardo. The Red Bull manager took advantage of his appearance on the F1 Nation podcast to send a message to the Australian driver.
Barring a huge turnaround, Daniel Ricciardo did indeed compete in his last outing at the wheel of an F1 single-seater during the Singapore GP. Pushed towards the exit for various reasons, the Australian has still not given any clue as to his future projects. If the IndyCar track has been mentioned for a while, one thing is certain. Ricciardo has no shortage of ideas for his next career in motorsport. However, Red Bull has no intention of permanently getting rid of the Australian driver.

Earlier this week, Helmut Marko admitted that he hoped to keep Daniel Ricciardo within the Austrian team. “We are clearly interested” mentioned the leader of Red Bull about an ambassadorial position cut out for Ricciardo. It is now Christian Horner’s turn to plead for a collaboration with the newly retired F1 driver. “We have been very clear that we want him to remain in a team ambassador role,” said the Red Bull boss during the podcast F1 Nation. Unhappy at the wheel of the Racing Bulls single-seater, Daniel Ricciardo could enjoy a very different role within the Austrian team.
“If Liam doesn’t do the job…”
Christian Horner, however, has not definitively closed the door to the Australian driver. In his eyes, the performances of Liam Lawson will be closely scrutinized, just like those of Sergio Pérez. One misstep, and Ricciardo could well see his phone ringing again.“If Liam doesn’t do the job, if Checo doesn’t do the job, we know what Daniel’s capabilities are.” estimated Christian Horner. A release that is sure to make noise, as the F1 2024 season continues from October 20 in the United States.
