Franco Colapinto says he doesn’t care whether he’ll still be in Formula 1 next year and prefers to focus on the present, as his name is often mentioned as a potential future teammate of Nico Hulkenberg at Audi F1.

Colapinto made his Formula 1 debut at the 2024 Italian Grand Prix where Williams called upon his services at the last minute after deciding to part ways with American Logan Sargeant. In his first race at Monza, Colapinto made a strong impression despite not finishing in the points.

But last weekend in Azerbaijan, Franco Colapinto managed to qualify for Q3 in Saturday’s qualifying session and would go on to finish eighth in the Sunday race, the Argentine scoring his first points in Formula 1.

Asked this Thursday in Singapore whether his clan is currently working to find him a seat in Formula 1 next year – possibly at Audi as the rumours suggest – Colapinto replied: “Of course, it’s great to hear these things.”

“But I have no idea about anything. I’m with Williams and James [Vowles, Team Principal de l’équipe] gave me an incredible opportunity, and I’m very, very proud of what we’re achieving together, in only my second race.”

“I have no idea what’s going to happen in 2025, but it’s not something that’s on my mind right now. That’s why I have managers working on what I have to do next season.”

“I don’t really think about all that, I focus on this year and the incredible opportunity I have to race in Formula 1 in the middle of the season.” he added.

“My goal was to come to Formula 1 and try to stay there. The opportunity Williams has given me is very special and it’s a dream I’ve had since I was a little boy. I’m enjoying every moment and I think that’s the most important thing.”

“I don’t know how long it will last, whether I will be here next year or not…but I don’t care and I don’t think about those things.”

As you will have understood, no matter what happens for him in the coming months, the Argentinian is already extremely proud of his career and of having managed to seize this opportunity offered by the Williams team and of having scored his first points in F1 last weekend in Baku.

“It’s very exciting to see that we are achieving good results with Williams.” added Franco Colapinto.

“The team is doing a great job, the car is improving session after session. I feel a little bit more comfortable with the car and I feel really good. The team is helping me to achieve this, the learning process is much faster and I think we are going in the right direction.”

“It’s only the beginning, but we’re doing very well and we’re scoring good points for the team, more than double the points they’ve scored this season in a single weekend.”

“So far, everything has gone very well and I look forward to continuing to work with this incredible team. Of course, I am very proud and grateful for the opportunity I have been given.”
