Belgian Alex Segaert from the Lotto-Dstny team won the time trial of the Renewi Tour (formerly the Benelux Tour) and thus took the leader’s jersey.

Alex Segaert takes power! The 21-year-old Belgian rider won the time trial of the Renewi Tour on Thursday, a race counting towards the World Tour formerly known as the Tour of the Benelux. This completely flat time trial took place around Tessenderlo, a town in the province of Limburg (where the European Championships will be held in two weeks), in the north of Belgium. And the Lotto-Dstny runner covered the 15.4 kilometers in 16 minutes and 59 seconds. He finished seven seconds ahead of Ineos Grenadiers’ American Magnus Sheffield and ten seconds ahead of EF Education-EasyPost’s Swiss Stefan Bisseger. This is Segaert’s second career victory, after the Grand Prix Criquielion last March.

Laporte best French

This victory allows him to take the lead in the general classification, ahead of the former world time trial champion Tobias Foss. The Italian sprinter Jonathan Milan, winner of the first stage on Wednesday and the first leader, is now in tenth place. On the French side, it was Christophe Laporte who showed himself to be the strongest in this time trial, finishing seventh. This allows the European champion to occupy fifth place overall. On Friday, there will be a 185-kilometre stage between Blankerberge (by the sea) and Ardooie (in the west of Belgium), without any major difficulties. It should therefore delight sprinters.
