Cyprien Gilles remains unsatisfied for the moment regarding his cyclo-cross season. “It's not crazy, I expected a lot better. The results were not good in the Coupe de France. I only made it into the Top 10 once.”entrusted to DirectVelo the Norman referring to his 10th place in Pierric a month ago.
The 24-year-old rider has changed some things this winter. He has already found a cyclo-cross structure at Team Guevel Roadborn, almost three years after leaving Fima. “It’s much closer to home and the setting is better. It’s semi-pro, we have everything, we have nothing to complain about.”. Previously trained by Mathieu Lambert, he is now followed by former pro Arnold Jeannesson, also a resident of Team Guevel Roadborn. “We quickly became automatic”.
“GET INTO THE TOP 10 ON BOTH DAYS”
But two other modifications had a negative impact on its performance. “I reviewed my position on the bike quite a bit and these choices were not good, even if it is now resolved. Furthermore, I had a calendar with more regional races in order to have more freshness as the UCI cross races were not very close. But in regional, it lasts 50 minutes and when you are in the lead with a minute in advance, it prevents you from surpassing yourself. It’s not like when you play around 10th position in C2.”
The current 10th in the general classification of the French cyclo-cross Cup has a clear objective for the last stage, scheduled for this weekend in La Ferté-Bernard. “I want to get into the Top 10 both days. I don’t know the circuit at all even though I don’t live too far away.” Last Sunday, Cyprien Gilles was deprived of the Normandy Championship (read here). “I replaced that with a big week of Cycling.”. He applied for the World Cup rounds in Zonhoven and Gavere. For that of Besançon on December 29, he does not know yet. “The Regional Championship certainly risks being postponed the same weekend. If that’s the case, I would still favor that.”
