. INTERVIEW – Alexis Guérin changes team: “There was a different…”

After just one short year spent in training Philippe Wagner/Bazin, Alexis Guerin is going to leave Belgium… for Portugal. Indeed, the 32-year-old Frenchman will join the Iberian Peninsula and settle down within the team Sabgal/Anicolor. After a high-flying 2024 season, with a stage victory on the Tour of a 7th place on the Limousin Touran 8th on the Tour d’Alsace… the Palois hopes to continue this momentum in 2025. “I wanted to go to a team where I would be loved and appreciated”

“I am very happy, I was towards the first serious offer I received”said Alexis Guerin. “I came out of training with them and I was very surprised. It's a very professional team and very interested in the well-being of its riders. I wanted to go to a team where I would be loved and appreciated This is what I found in this team. They made me an offer… which was perhaps not the best compared to others, but they were able to convince me. From what I have seen, whether in terms of the equipment, the staff, the support… it's training at the level of the best ProTeam teams.”

“The French teams? There were discussions…”

In 2023, Alexis Guerin evolved under the colors of the Bingoal WBbefore leaving in 2024 to Philippe Wagner/Bazin…two teams which will merge in 2025 to reach the ProTeam level. So why not continue with this project? “There was a difference with the manager of Bingoal WB, who did not necessarily respect the clauses to announce a renewal of a contract. So it was complicated to go to a team which merged with that of this manager. ” Also surprising not to see the Palois signing for one of the 13 French teams that play at the professional level. “There were many discussions, but it didn't happen. A serious offer came from Portugal and I accepted it”he explained to us.
