Mountain biking | Jordan Sarrou commits the unforgivable on the Roc d’Azur

For this end-of-season classic, the mountain bike riders met in Fréjus, in the , to compete in the 40th edition of the Roc d’Azur. On the program, no less than 55 kilometers during which the runners must climb 1420m in altitude. A selective route, in which French people will still show themselves in the worst possible ways.

The problem for Mathis Azzaro on a mountain bike…

The race begins, and very quickly a duo emerges from the peloton. Indeed, Mathis Azzaro and Jordan Sarrou rule the roost in this 40th edition of the Roc d’Azur. If the name of the first speaks to you, it is quite simply because he was guilty of high treason during the last round of the MTB World Cup at Mont Sainte-Anne. And once again, the Frenchman does not hesitate to have a 1 minute 30 lead over Jordan Sarrou.

But Mathis Azzaro has a strong opponent on the roads of Var; not Jordan Sarrou, but the cramps. His lead melts like snow in the sun, and as he sees the finish line getting closer, he is joined by that devil Sarrou 500 meters from the finish. While Azzaro had a 1 minute 30 lead, Sarrou gave him 25 seconds at the finish line. It is therefore a second consecutive second place on the Roc d’Azur for Azzaro. The mess is total.

“I don’t really understand what happened. For an hour and a half, everything was fine and then, nothing more” Mathis Azzaro

…which benefits this devil Jordan Sarrou

After tackling the good side of this race, it’s time to face the dark side. After 2h12 of effort, Jordan Sarrou won his fifth victory in the event, an unequaled record. The Auvergne raises his hand at the finish line to signify his fifth victory, a manita inflicted on the FFL. And the pompom on the Garonne is a tricolor jersey that wins this race. The image is terrible for our pupils.

Behind the Sarrou – Azzaro duo, Joshua Dubau completes the podium for an indigestible French hat-trick. Finally, Maxime Marotte’s sixth place is symbolic, because it is the last of his career. The Frenchman is retiring after good and loyal service to our federation.
