Cycling. Road – The National Cycling League refers the matter to the Council of State against the FFC

Following the decision of the French Cycling Federation (FFC) to create a new division “Men’s Federal Continentals” against the advice of the National Cycling League (LNC), the latter will refer the matter to the Council of State. In fact, in June the FFC – eager to “give a real boost to amateur cycling and offer clubs all the necessary means so that their training work can continue in the best conditions” – had announced the creation of a new category of teams, the Continentales Fédérales, located between the amateur N1 clubs and the Continentales.

Judicial battle in sight

“As it announced on June 21 during the French Road Cycling Championships, the French Cycling Federation has created a new division called ‘Continentales Fédérales Hommes’, which will see the light of day from the 2025 season. This new division ‘continental’, the existence of which will necessarily be detrimental to the teams belonging to the ‘professional continental’ division, was created despite the opposition of the National Cycling League” wrote the LNC in a press release.

“Indeed, the management of French professional cycling (including teams with the ‘Continentals’ label falls under the prerogatives of the National Cycling League and not those of the French Cycling Federation” then recalled the LNC. This is the reason why, in order to protect its interests, as well as those of the teams, organizers and professional riders, the National Cycling League has decided to refer the matter to the Council of State. concluded the press release. The Council of State will therefore be obliged to decide in favor of one of the two institutions.
