The detailed summary

The first kilometers of this final stage are very lively. The attacks follow one another and we even find the favorites at the forefront. A group of 17 riders breaks away, where all the leaders are present, except Juan Ayuso (UAE Team Emirates). But it eventually comes back and a more traditional breakaway forms with three men: Archie Ryan (EF Education-EasyPosty), Johannes Staune-Mittet (Visma | Lease a Bike) and Lorenzo Milesi (Movistar Team). Behind, it is the training Lidl-Trek who controls.

Everything will be decided in the final, since five riders are within 10 seconds of each other in the general classification: the leader Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Deceuninck), Juan Ayuso (2nd to 3rd”, UAE Team Emirates), Mauri Vansevenant (3rd to 3rd”, Soudal Quick-Step), Marc Hirschi (4th to 8″, UAE Team Emirates) and Antonio Tiberi (5th at 10″, Bahrain Victorious). And it is the Swiss who launches the offensives more than 20 km from the finish, but he is well followed by his competitors, while the three escapees are caught.

Gaudu and Tiberi heroes of the day

Following this first offensive, there is no longer any control over the race, the attacks follow one another. And after many offensives, a group of four finally manages to extricate themselves. We find ourselves at the head Quinn Simmons (Lidl-Trek), the two French David Gaudu (Groupama-FDJ) and Jordan Jegat (TotalEnergies)… and a certain Antonio Tiberi (Bahrain Victorious). Behind, it’s looking at you, no one is driving while Tiberi is in the process of overthrowing the general. Under the impetus of the Italian, the quartet takes more than 30 seconds in advance. And it is David Gaudu who goes on the attack on the last climb of the day, 1.5 kilometers from the finish. The Breton unclamps all his competitors, before resisting and flying towards his second victory of the season. Gaudu therefore offers the 14th victory in 2024 to the Groupama-FDJ. Behind him, Quinn Simmons (2nd), Jordan Jegat (3rd) and Antonio Tiberi (4th) cross the line 3 seconds behind. Despite a big effort made in the final difficulty, where only Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek) was able to follow him, Mathieu van der Poel concedes more than 25 seconds to Antonio Tiberi and loses his leader’s jersey.

So it is the Italian who wins this 84th edition of the Skoda Tour of Luxembourg ! His first success in a general classification in his career. He is accompanied on the final podium by Mathieu van der Poel and a certain David Gauduwhich made a nice comeback. Mauri Vansevenant takes him 4th place. While the two UAE Team Emirates, Juan Ayuso And Marc Hirschifell to 5th and 6th positions respectively.
