“We were lucky to have the wind behind us”: Marjorie travelled to Girona from Gers by bike

Marjorie Ros left Mauvezin by bike on September 13 and reached Girona on September 15. Suffering from epilepsy and arterial disease, this cyclist will take part in a major cycle touring event before returning home to Hyères at the end of the month.

This is a new (and beautiful) stage checked off in Marjorie Ros’s travel diary. After leaving her town of Hyères by bike to reach Gers via Cantal, the resilient cyclist with epilepsy reached Girona from Mauvezin at the end of last week. This new challenge was divided into three stages: Mauvezin – Revel (127 km), Revel – Toulouges (163 km) and finally Toulouges – Girona (131 km).

Leaving early in the morning (8:30 a.m.) in Mauvezin on Friday, September 13, after a breakfast offered by the CCAS of the town and under the eyes of the mayor Alain Baqué, Marjorie was joined by three companions along her journey. Along the way, she was able to enjoy the landscapes, from the Canal du Midi to the seaside roads. She was also able to appreciate the warm welcome she received in the different towns she crossed, from Villemoustaussou (Aude), where she met the local of the stage Emilie Decamps, to Girona, passing through Toulouges (Pyrénées-Orientales), where the mayor opened the doors of the Clairfont park to her.

“We can get over some pain”

On the physical level, Marjorie is pleased that she did not suffer the slightest cramp during the three days of driving. She still had to deal with her foot pain resulting from her arteriopathy, another debilitating disease from which she suffers in addition to epilepsy. “I stopped often, I massaged my feet,” says the woman who found in sport a way to combat her illnesses. “You can go beyond that thanks to sport because it makes you stronger psychologically. You can overcome certain pains.”

With this new challenge accomplished, Marjorie can now turn to her next challenge: the Sea Otter Europe, a world-renowned cyclo race that takes place from September 20 to 22 in Girona, in which she will participate as road captain thanks to her sponsor (Jelenew). She will then head back on September 25 to reach her city of Hyères on September 29, if all goes well, via Argelès, , Palavas-les-Flots and Salon-de-Provence. Needless to say, she has not finished riding.
