Time for a reckoning? Chancel Mbemba (30 years old) posted an intriguing video of about fifteen seconds on his X account on Wednesday evening. The defender appears between shadow and light in this teaser announcing “a first exclusive” on Sunday on his YouTube channel, without giving more details on the content to come. A speech after a very chaotic summer at OM? Nothing says so for the moment even if Marseille supporters seem to be expecting a big reveal from the Congolese international.
The player, who arrived in Marseille in 2022 from Anderlecht, was suspended by the club in early August after an incident during training. OM accuses him of behaving badly with a member of the management team close to Pablo Longoria and Mehdi Benatia. But the versions diverge as some witnesses point to the vehement behavior of the manager in question, which OM firmly contradicts. The decision was then taken to exclude Mbemba from the group and to no longer have him wear the colors of OM. A two-week salary deduction was also applied.
At the beginning of the summer, OM had told the player that they were no longer counting on him, making him train with the reserves. After the departure of Jordan Veretout to Lyon, Chancel Mbemba is the last member of the loft of undesirables.
A way out had opened for the former Newcastle player who had an interesting financial proposal from the Saudi club Al Shabab (a salary of 4 million euros per year, plus a signing bonus of 2 million). OM had for its part reached an agreement with the Saudi club for a transfer fee of 3.5 million euros. But the case ultimately fell through due to Mbemba’s higher demands which would have reduced the amount of the transfer fee. Relations remain tense between the two parties… while waiting for the player’s exclusivity on Sunday.
