Gérald Darmanin brings together all prosecutors on Monday to respond to recent “unacceptable violence”

The Minister of Justice intends to orient the action of the magistrates by transmitting a new circular of criminal policy.

Gérald Darmanin announced Sunday January 25 on X that he would bring together on Monday all prosecutors to deliver a new circular of criminal policy in response to “Unacceptable violence” recent, without specifying which ones. “This short and clear instruction will assign two priorities that will provide a quick and firm criminal response. I will make this public circular on Monday evening”promises the Minister of Justice.

A law of 2013, then carried by Christiane Taubira, prohibited the Ministry of Justice from giving “Individual instructions” To avoid any political interference in specific files. The Keeper of the Seals can nevertheless issue criminal policy circulars to guide the action of prosecutors.

According to the most recent statistics published by the Ministry of the Interior for the period from mid-2023 to mid-2014, homicide attempts (+11%) and recorded sexual violence (+7%) are up , just like certain types of flights, for example vehicle, or burglaries (+4%). Voluntary assaults and injuries are stable (+1%), such as voluntary destruction and degradations. Homicides are down 8%, as is violent flights with weapon (-7%) or certain drugs related to narcotics.
