While the Braderie de Lille is in full swing in the North, the Île-de-France region is also taking advantage of the opportunity to offer some great deals. In Saint-Denis (Seine-Saint-Denis), an Olympic flea market offered many visitors the opportunity to buy souvenirs from the Paris 2024 Games, which ended with the champions’ parade this Saturday.

Bobs, fanny packs, Ecocups, uniforms, flags… Many items were on sale at knockdown prices of up to 60 euros maximum. An event never organized before.

“This is the first time that we have organised a big sale after the Games. The idea for us is to give a second life to a whole bunch of elements that took part in the Games and that made these Games so grandiose,” says Justine, who is part of the organisation of the event, on BFMTV.

“It allows us to keep a memory, to make this period live a little longer, it’s great,” confides one visitor.

A second life policy

Beyond the response provided to the nostalgia for the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games, this sale is also an economic and ecological alternative. It is part of Paris 2024’s objective to “recycle and offer a second life to all 6 million pieces of equipment needed to organize the Games”.

“The sales are a cornerstone of our second-life policy and it’s not the only one, because we also have a platform for businesses to reuse a whole bunch of materials and we have a lot of donations to sports and charitable associations,” explains Justine.

With the organizing team, she did not expect to see so many visitors on site. In total, more than 2,000 people turned up.

24 other sales planned

On site, business is structured and a few rules have been established. “We have set a limit of five items per person to try to please everyone. It’s pretty fair. And, since the prices are attractive, they go pretty quickly,” adds Justine.

All the more so since stocks are limited, because the stated objective is to carry out a large clearance sale and keep some. Because “a list of 24 clearance sales” is coming, she specifies.

The next sale of this type will take place in Mulhouse on September 16, starting at 9am. In the Paris region, several other dates are already planned. In Pantin, the sale will arrive on Sunday, September 22 at the Maurice Baquet gymnasium, while on the 29th, a Games sale will be organized in Élancourt (Yvelines). Other dates have also been announced in Nanterres, Colombes and Paris.
