Already winner on Monday in Niel, Laurens Sweeck continues its good momentum by winning the 4th round of the Super prestigein Merksplas. At the end of an extremely close race, where seven riders arrived in less than 10 seconds, the Belgian Crelan-Corendon was looking for his 3rd victory of the season, ahead of his compatriot Toon Aerts (Deschacht-Hens-FSP) and the Dutch Laars van der Haar (Baloise Trek Lions).

The race summary

From the first round, a quartet composed of Niels Vandeputte (Alpecin-Deceuninck), Michael Vanthourenhout (Pauwels Sauces – Bingoal), That is, Iserby (Pauwels Sauces – Bingoal) et Laurens Sweeck (Crelan-Corendon) broke away from the rest of the peloton. Thibau Nys (Baloise Trek Lions) led the chasing group and, after a little over 12 minutes of racing, the Belgian managed to bring the favorites back into the lead. From there it is Felipe Orts (Ridley Racing Team) who took the lead, but the Spaniard did not really manage to stretch the peloton, which remained grouped until halfway. During the seventh round, Toon Aerts (Deschacht-Hens-FSP) began to go on the offensive. However, the gap did not really crack under the Belgian's acceleration, and the leading group remained compact at the bell.

In the last round, Laurens Sweeck took the lead for the first time of the day, with a brutal acceleration. The others have not completely given up and Aerts et Nys did everything to close the gap in the sand section. Sweeck however managed to maintain his lead in the final turns, thus taking the victory ahead of Aerts et van der Haar.
