Cycling: Auvergne Louis Chaleil (Decathlon U19) finishes the season with a bang at the Chrono des Nations

He smashed his time last year at Les Herbiers. Louis Chaleil performed at a very high level this Sunday at the Chrono des Nations, ending his season at the foot of the podium, among the juniors.

Louis Chaleil from Auvergne left his mark on the last major meeting of the season, this Sunday in Les Herbiers (Vendée). The 18-year-old from Issoir, a time trial specialist, ended his 2024 exercise with a 4th place in the Chrono des Nations, in the event reserved for U19 runners.

By riding at 48 km/h on an almost flat circuit (213 m D+), over a distance slightly longer than 27 kilometers, the rider from the Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale U19 team conceded a little less than a minute to the winner, Irishman Seth Dunwoody.

A performance in line with those that the rider based in Saint-Babel (Puy-de-Dôme) achieved throughout the season in time trials, which earned him to be selected, recently, for the world championships in the specialty, where he took 11th place, in Zurich (Switzerland).

The young Auvergne also confirmed the full extent of his progress since last year. On the same course, Chaleil improved his time by more than two and a half minutes (33’59 against 36’34) and his ranking in an equally impressive manner, going from 27th to 4th position.

A second junior from Auvergne, Camille Charret (VC Villefranche Beaujolais), also tested himself against the clock in the Vendée event this Sunday. The French road race champion also beat his time from last year and improved his final ranking, but to a lesser extent.

Nineteenth last year (in 35’31), the puncheur from Vieille-Brioude ended his road season with this time a 14th place in Les Herbiers and a time dropped by a little more than 30 seconds ( 34’53).
