After the French team’s 4th place in the mixed relay at the World Championships, Audrey Cordon-Ragot made her mea culpa. Not on a good day, the Frenchwoman didn’t mince her words.

A year after winning a fine silver medal in Glasgow, the French team had to settle for 4th place this Wednesday, during the mixed relay at the World Championships. In Zurich, while Ben O’Connor’s Australia narrowly edged out Germany (one second) and Italy (eight seconds), the Blues finished just off the podium, 16 seconds behind Filippo Ganna and Elisa Longo Borghini’s team. A disappointment for the French team, who were obviously hoping for better. Especially since Bruno Armirail was in a good mood, according to him. “If today’s legs had been there on Sunday, I would have been in the top 10, or even better. But that’s how it is, they weren’t there on Sunday, even if I did a good time,” reacted the rider from the Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale team, who took 11th place in the time trial last Sunday.

Cordon-Ragot dreamed of a better end with the Blues

As she prepares to retire at the end of the season, Audrey Cordon-Ragot was very harsh about her performance today. “I’m disappointed and I feel guilty above all, clearly. It wasn’t the way I wanted to leave the French team, so pffff. It sucks, honestly. That’s how it is, that’s sport, you can’t always be at your best but I was off topic today (Wednesday), really off topic. (…) I should have told them to go without me earlier, because they would have been faster with two. I didn’t do anything today except slow the team down,” explained the Frenchwoman (35 years old), in comments collected by L’Equipe. I take responsibility, it’s my fault, we didn’t come for that. (…) If they had left together earlier, there was a chance of being on the podium, so I feel guilty.”
