This Wednesday was the 64th edition of the Grand Prix of Wallonia (1.Pro), taking place in the East of Belgium between Blegny and Namur with the magnificent and traditional finish at the Citadel of Namur, a 2.9 km cobbled climb at 4.1%. Coming out in the lead at the last bend, the Spaniard Alex Aranburu (Movistar Team) launched the sprint from a long way back and led throughout the final straight… before being overtaken on the line by his compatriot Roger Adria (Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe) ! Behind this Iberian duo, the podium is completed by the French Clement Champoussin (Arkéa – B&B Hotels), which confirms its good momentum of the moment after its victory on the Tour of Tuscany a week ago. The 26-year-old from looked back on his performance of the day in a press release published by the Breton team.

“I’m having a great season… but it’s not over yet”

The Grand Prix de Wallonie was made nervous by the wind, but in the final we were well positioned Clément Venturini, Vincenzo Albanese and I. It was done in the last kilometers, with movement, but the peloton regrouped in the climb of the Citadel of Namur. I managed to position myself well in the last kilometer, and three hundred meters in the last bend, I was able to catch up with quite a few competitors. I turn third and that’s my place on the line. It was coming back quite a bit from behind, and I’m happy to have managed to keep my place“, explained Clement Champoussin before taking a step back from his current good period.

I’m having a great season, I’ve had a lot of good results since the Arctic Race of Norway, and others after that. My victory in Tuscany did me good for morale, because I’d been waiting for a success for a while. It’s also a race that was close to my heart, and in which I wanted to win. Today the Grand Prix de Wallonie didn’t really suit me on paper, but I got a podium. Now the season isn’t over yet. There are still races to go, a good fortnight to stay focused. And I’m going to do everything I can to continue this great momentum.he concluded.
