The absolute attendance record on the network Tisséo had already fallen in mid-December, when the milestone of 200 million was crossed on the 18th of the month. In the end, over the whole of 2024, there are no less than 206 million validations which have been recorded on the Tisséo network, indicates the public transport authority of the Toulouse metropolitan area to Toulouse news.
13 million more validations than in 2023
“The increase in public transport ridership that we have experienced this year brings us to records,” underlines Jean-Michel Lattesthe president of Tisséo. “200 million passengers have never happened before. 206, it’s doubly historic,” he rejoices.
Weighed down during the Covid pandemic, urban transport traffic had already increased by 7.2% in 2023 compared to 2022, to stand at 193.8 million validations (+13 million). But the absolute record so far dated from 2019, before the pandemic, with 198 million recorded that year. He is now beaten six millions.
“Since 2023, after a difficult Covid-19 period, we have found great dynamics on the network with the renewed confidence and loyalty of our travelers,” underlined Jean-Michel Lattes at the end of 2024.
9% more revenue for Tisséo in 2024
If the precise breakdown between the different modes of transport has not yet been revealed, in mid-December 2024, according to provisional figures, Tisséo indicated that 57 % validations came from metro et 34 % of the bus (including 40% from Linéo). This rebound in attendance has an impact on Tisséo’s finances which counted on approximately “120 million euros in commercial revenue, an announced increase of more than 9% compared to 2023”.
A rebound in metro traffic… and Linéo
Remember that the year 2024 was marked by major exceptional events such as the Opéra Urbain – Tisséo transported 1.73 million travelers in three days during the La Machine show –, but also other more regular ones, such as the Rose Festival, July 14, the Fête de la Musique, the concerts at the Zénith…
According to Jean-Michel Lattes, this increase is due to “an increase in metro attendance, even before the arrival of line C”, but also and above all to “the rise of the Linéo network”.
-Each time we transform a classic line into Linéo, we increase attendance by 20%. This is proof that when you put efficient buses in place, people are interested in them. And if we give Toulouse residents an alternative, they use it.
With Linéo, a bus every 6 to 9 minutes
Since 2016, Linéo has complemented Tisséo’s range of mobility offerings in the greater Toulouse area. These buses “benefit from a high level of service”, insists Tisséo, with “a bus every 6 to 9 minutes during peak hours, a service from 5:15 a.m. to midnight (the same as the metro and tram), a direct connection to the metro, tram and/or park-and-ride facilities, 100% accessible buses, real-time information » .
A new Linéo in service, others adapted
From year to year, the Tisséo network is constantly evolving, to the point that the main park and ride facilities allowing access to the metro are today saturated.
A new Linéo entered service on September 2: Linéo 14. In addition, an adaptation of line 18 was carried out connecting the Pradettes district to Basso Cambo, and also to the Arènes. “The first figures are very encouraging”, again according to Tisséo. “+ 7% compared to 2023 for Linéo 14, and + 54% for line 18 which now runs on a common trunk with Linéo 14 on the Route de Saint-Simon. For this sector of Toulouse, overall +15% attendance is recorded.”
A new Linéo expected for September 2025
In September 2025, the network will further evolve with the commissioning of Linéo 12, which will connect Borderouge to Rangueil and will constitute “a transverse structuring axis in the east of the Toulouse territory”. 14.5 km long and with 36 stops, it will serve 46,000 residents, 18,000 jobs and more than 5,000 middle and high school students.
It will serve sites with high potential, such as Montaudran, several political districts of the city and cultural spaces (Cité de l’Espace, Halle de la Machine). Thus, it is eagerly awaited among the structuring offer.
The Linéo 7 will also be extended this year
At the same time, the offer will be modified on an existing line: the new Linéo 7 will connect Paul Sabatier University to the Saint-Orens swimming pool, via the new district of Malepère. Long de 11,6 km and with 31 stops, “it meets the service objectives of Saint-Orens in connection with the metro and the future Line C and the creation of an efficient east-west link,” argues Tisséo.
