Dakar, Dec 26 (APS) – One of the particularities of the Prime Minister's general policy declaration (DPG) scheduled for this Friday lies above all in the personality of Ousmane Sonko, one of the heads of government to “occupy the position of Prime Minister in all his fullness,” said government spokesperson Amadou Moustapha Sarré.
“Friday's general policy declaration will have a particularity linked to the personality of Ousmane Sonko, considered to be certainly the first statesman to occupy the post of Prime Minister in all its fullness,” said Mr. Sarré in an interview with the APS.
“Today we have a Prime Minister who occupies this position to the fullest and executes to the letter the policy defined by the President of the Republic,” he said.
Amadou Moustapha Sarré assures that, during Ousmane Sonko's DPG, “the Senegalese will have before them a Prime Minister who will show them the new direction that the country will take” during the mandate of President of the Republic.
“The Senegalese will be entitled to a general policy declaration backed by a clear orientation, based in particular on [le développement] territorial centers,” underlined Mr. Sarré.
Ousmane Sonko “has always sparked debate, and his party came to power in a context of tensions and political violence,” noted professor of modern and contemporary history Mamadou Yéro Baldé, teaching at Cheikh-Anta University. Diop from Dakar.
Mr. Sarré maintains that the head of government has been ready, for a long time, to make his general policy declaration before the National Assembly.
“As soon as the government was formed in April, the Prime Minister asked ministers to prepare the general policy declaration by producing documents including the projects and programs that should constitute its framework,” said the government spokesperson.
Already, on June 5, Ousmane Sonko made an assessment of the preparations for his DPG, according to him.
“From that point on, the Prime Minister was already ready and just waiting to be called to the National Assembly to make this policy statement […] So, all that remains is to do some proofreading, the document is now ready,” assured Amadou Moustapha Sarré.
“It is an exercise that he has wanted to engage in for a long time, but it was previously necessary to comply with the law by reinstating the provisions governing the post of Prime Minister in the organic law, which is now done,” continued Mr. . Sarré.
