“Cochon Roussy”, the Martinican YouTuber Willem unveils his new medium-length film with an emblematic character from his channel

“When Christmas superstar Roussy returns to Martinique for the biggest concert ever organized on the island, she has an encounter that risks changing the course of her life and career.”

This is the starting point of “Roussy Pig”the second medium-length film by Martinican YouTuber Willem. Lasting 37 minutes, this film follows “West Indian Momsreleased last year.

We find the adventures of Roussy, a fictional character born on Willem's YouTube channel, who had a viral moment during the confinements linked to the Covid-19 pandemic. The song Roussy Pigwhich marked this era, today gives its name to the film.

Willem explains his choice to return to medium-length format:

Last year, this format really stimulated me as an artist, author and director. This time, I wanted to bring comedy and more lightness, while conveying important messages in my works.

The central message of Roussy Pig is clear: stay true to yourself.

We tend to forget our aspirations and our goals to please others. The big message of the film is to remember who we are and to stay focused on our dreams, despite the noise around us.

Beyond this theme, Willem also addresses self-love and the importance of giving yourself the means to achieve your ambitions.

As for Roussy Pigthe project was carried out at full speed.

The film was made somewhat on a whim: it took me three months to write, search for partners, cast, film, edit and communicate.

An intense rhythm for a result that will delight fans of Roussy and Willem's creative universe.

Roussy is a character already known from Willem's YouTube channel. He appeared in the comedy series The Zouk Singers.

I had fun parodying zouk singers whose names often end in “Y”. The name Roussy came naturally, just like the cult phrase “It smells burnt, it’s Roussy”.

The film, written, produced and directed by Willem, benefited from the help of two production assistants: Andréa Bellone and Ingrid Saminadin, with whom he had already collaborated on his first medium-length film.

All the shots where I appear on screen, I program the cameras, the lights, the sound… Then, the assistants make sure that everything remains correct while I am on the image. Otherwise, I'm behind the camera.

Passionate about the arts since his childhood, Willem defines himself as a “Artist with a capital A” : YouTuber, actor, singer, director… He explores all facets of creation.

Since I was little, I have been making music, performing shows, and shooting films with my cousins ​​with a camcorder that I asked my parents. Today, I have more resources and knowledge, which allows me to go further in my projects.

And Willem doesn't plan to stop there.

Nothing has been announced yet, but everything will happen in due time.

Next year, he is planning a new film project around another flagship character from his YouTube channel, as well as a new musical album and a comedy show.
