A space dedicated to indigenous cultural transmission at the Chicoutimi library

A space dedicated to the transmission of indigenous cultures was inaugurated by the City of Saguenay on Friday at the Chicoutimi library.

The Kassinu Mamo room, which means all togetherwas created in collaboration with Boîte Rouge Vif, an organization whose mission is to promote the heritage of First Nations cultures, as well as an indigenous committee.

A traditional ceremony, in the company of indigenous artist Jeffrey Papatie, a member of the Anishnabe Nation in Lac-Simon, and his family, also took place during the inauguration, which took place in the presence of the mayor of Saguenay, Julie Dufour, and the president of the Arts and Culture Commission, Marc Bouchard.

The place was created in collaboration with the Boîte Rouge Vif.

It becomes a permanent place that can be used to transmit indigenous cultures within Saguenay libraries. The room was really thought out, designed and developed in collaboration with various indigenous partners, which means that now there is a permanent bridge between the activities of the city’s culture department and these communities which can use the facilityindicated the spokesperson for the City of Saguenay, Dominic Arseneau.

The room, which is near a new space dedicated to indigenous works, has been decorated with sacred trees that emit fragrance and images that recall indigenous cultures.

It can be used as a work space and can host mini-seminars or even book clubs.
