Rising Covid cases and XEC variant: reimbursement of tests, vaccines, what are the rules?

In this context of epidemic resurgence, what is the procedure to follow to get tested? Are the tests covered by Health Insurance or do you have to take out your wallet? And who can get vaccinated?

What are the reimbursement rules?

Since March 1, 2023, screening tests (antigenic and RT-PCR) are no longer 100% reimbursed by Health Insurance. Including for those who are up to date with their vaccinations. Today, the cost of the test is covered 70% by the CPAM, if it is carried out by a doctor or pharmacist, and 30% by the patient’s mutual insurance, if the latter has subscribed to it. a. If he does not have complementary health insurance, he will have to pay the rest. Reimbursement for these tests continues to be made without an initial prescription.

Only certain categories of people will continue to benefit from full support. These are people recognized as having a long-term illness (ALD), those over 65, minors, immunocompromised people, those subject to collective screening or even health professionals, in daily contact with most vulnerable populations, details Health Insurance on its website.

Who can receive a booster dose?

A new vaccination campaign against Covid-19, but also the flu, will begin on October 15. It specifically targets French people aged 65 and over and people at risk of serious illness. In detail, pregnant women, immunocompromised people, those with comorbidities, residents in EHPADs and long-term care units (USLD) as well as caregivers. If you are not in the target and you wish to be vaccinated, you can benefit from this injection free of charge.

Please note that a period of six months must be respected after the last vaccine injection or the last Covid infection, regardless of the person’s situation. This period is reduced to 3 months for immunocompromised people and those aged 80 and over.

Even vaccinated, barrier gestures are necessary. Public Health France insists on “the systematic adoption of barrier gestures by all”particularly on wearing a mask in the event of symptoms in the presence of vulnerable people and in busy places.
