NARRATIVE – The health crisis reminded us that the public hospital was “the true health shield of our nation” and enabled unprecedented – but ephemeral – cooperation between public and private.
In a worried and confined France, the coronavirus epidemic had brought to the forefront the essential role of health professionals. Without the dedication of caregivers and the establishment of cooperation between public and private actors, the human toll during this period (170,000 deaths) would have been much worse. But five years after the health crisis, the structural crisis of the public hospital is still significant – despite the significant investments of the “Ségur de la santé” – and the “Covid spirit” seems to have disappeared.
