“Mal-Roulante”, the inclusive short film from Hendaye Marin Hospital

The Marin Hospital of Hendaye AP-HP has the particularity of having an establishment project giving a central place to culture for the benefit of hospitalized people, as an extension of the orientations of the Culture and well-being department of the APHP. To do this, the establishment’s socio-educational team aims to propose projects “outside the walls” of the hospital to the management, in direct connection with the cultural dynamics of the city of Hendaye and the region. Socio-cultural projects are an integral part of care.

This is how from 2018, the idea of a short film with patients from the SMR Neurological Affections Ribadeau-Dumas service appeared obvious, with a writing workshop of 4 scenarios, an internship led by the director, documentarian and screenwriter Laetitia Mikles. A scenario was then selected by Pierre Suteau, screenwriter, to be adapted.

Financially supported by the Nouvelle-Aquitaine regional health agency, the DRAC and the AP-HP “After” Fund, the final project saw the light of day this year following a call for tenders retaining the company of production D_Vox and screenwriter-director Guillaume Levil, nominated for an Oscar in 2022 for the short film “La Valise Rouge”. The latter takes and rewrites the last version of the script and adapts it into a short film. Thanks to the pugnacity of the Hendaye team, in particular Jean-Michel Giansanti and Hervé Sein alongside the management of the Marin Hospital, the producer D_Vox and the director Guillaume Levil, the patient “actors” see their dream come true. materialize.

This great “health culture” adventure will have taken five years to emerge and many professionals from the Hendaye AP-HP Marine Hospital, all functions combined, will have actively participated in the project. It is only natural that the Hendaia Film Festival offers it a special place for its preview release, at the closing ceremony of the Festival.

The short film “Mal Roulante” is selected in competition at the International Fantastic Film Festival at the end of October 2024 with prospects also of selection at the International Short Film Festival in February 2025.
