The cold has returned and so has… Covid. An increase in cases of the virus has been noted in Luxembourg for four weeks, the Ministry of Health confirmed The essentials.
During the week of September 16 to 22, 262 cases were recorded in Luxembourg, compared to 178 the previous week. This increasing trend is also present in the country’s wastewater.
“The year 2024 follows a dynamic similar to that of 2023, when a wave of Covid was observed after the start of the school year,” indicates the ministry. There is no reason to panic, however, given that the number of cases remains relatively “low in comparison with the winter peak of last year”, reassures the ministry. It had reached 790 cases in December 2023. But it should still be noted that the circulating variants, mainly KP.3.1.1, remain severe and contagious.
The Higher Council for Infectious Diseases (CSMI) renews its recommendation to administer a single dose of vaccine against Covid for this winter, for people at risk, people aged 65 and over, pregnant women with comorbidity, as well as than people with certain other comorbidities.
