TRANSPORT – It’s coming in a few days. Anne Hidalgo announced on Monday, September 9, that the speed limit will be reduced on the Paris ring road starting October 1. It will then go from 70 to 50 km/h.
In Paris, the 50 km/h ring road? Anne Hidalgo or Clément Beaune, it’s hard to say who will have the last word
Under discussion for months, the decision, which was not to the liking of the previous government or the police prefect, was taken in particular for environmental and public health reasons. The Paris city hall also puts forward the fact that the average speed is already much lower than the new speed envisaged.
“We have been working on it since 2018, it is not a new subject,” said Anne Hidalgo. “We have very unanimous votes in the Paris Council, it was also the centrists who carried out all the work and obtained unanimity on this subject in 2018,” said the socialist mayor of Paris on RTL this Monday.
The maximum speed allowed on this 35-kilometre road belt that has surrounded the capital since 1973 had already dropped from 90 km/h to 80 in 1993, then to 70 in 2014.
