Akhenaton, Chico of the Gipsy Kings… Mathieu Kassovitz reveals the soundtrack of the musical comedy “La Haine”

Mathieu Kassovitz revealed this Monday on France Inter the names of the artists who composed the soundtrack of the musical show inspired by his cult film Hatewhich will be performed from October 10 at La Seine Musicale.

“We have some great people. We have some old guys: Akhenaton, Oxmo Puccino, Tunisiano. We have Mercer, who does a remix of Bob Marley. We have The Blade (an electro group, editor’s note). We have Mathieu Chedid with Angélique Kidjo, Chico from the Gipsy Kings,” reveals the director.

“There are some special things,” he added. “Youssoupha wrote us two songs (…), the most violent of the show. We have love songs, electro, songs, hardcore rap.”

Political firebrands

For him, the film’s subject remains relevant. The show is called that Hatred – So far nothing has changed“If we say that nothing has changed, it is because unfortunately there are still police blunders and problems in these neighborhoods.”

“Musicals are also extremely political: West Side Story, Hair, Starmaniathey are all political firebrands. We are part of this panel,” he insists.

Vinz, Saïd and Hubert – immortalized in the cinema by Vincent Cassel, Saïd Taghmaouï and Hubert Koundé – will be played on stage by Alexander Ferrario, Samy Belkessa and Alivor.

Fourteen paintings

Mathieu Kassovitz has been working for several years on this show combining dance, cinema, rap, theater and live performance. This show will involve around thirty dancers, singers and actors. The story will be told through fourteen scenes with the help of around fifteen original songs.

“I have been thinking for thirty years that Hate “is a musical comedy in the bud,” Mathieu Kassovitz confided in October 2023 to BFMTV. “These are scenes that follow one after the other and are like little raps.”

Mathieu Kassovitz promises “a broader vision than the one the film was able to give”. “Since everyone knows the end, we have to find another way to tell it, but we have a distance of 30 years for that.”
