Baby dead in Cher: parents placed in police custody

The Bourges public prosecutor's office has opened an investigation into intentional violence leading to death following the death of an infant.

The baby's parents, a couple from Menetou-Salon, were arrested and placed in police custody as part of this investigation carried out by the gendarmes of the Bourges research brigade. Presumed innocent, they are suspected of being at the origin of the violence which caused the death of their baby.

Helicoptered to Tours

Emergency services intervened at the couple's home on Tuesday January 14, shortly before midnight. The baby, a few weeks old, was airlifted to the regional university hospital center in Tours (Indre-et-Loire) during the night. The Smur helicopter landed on the Menetou-Salon municipal stadium.
Taken to hospital, the baby finally died a few days later.

Arrested, the parents were still in police custody this Tuesday evening. An autopsy of the baby's body was carried out.

Ongoing investigations are trying to establish the violence that the infant may have suffered.
