Laure Manaudou talks about her pregnancy at 23 and her role as a mother

She also talks about her withdrawal from media life in 2009, when she gave birth to her first child.

A career made of gold medals and setbacks. Canal+ shines the spotlight on swimmer Laure Manaudou, in a documentary entitled Laura! Laura! Laura! broadcast this Sunday, January 19, 2025, in the first part of the evening. The sportswoman recounts her meteoric rise to glory, when she was only 17 years old and triumphant at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, and also recounts the difficult trials that followed: her love life dissected in the press, her breakup with her trainer Philippe Lucas, the disclosure of her intimate photos on the Internet… An overmedia coverage that is particularly difficult for Laure Manaudou to live with.

Consequence of this overwhelming media pressure, coupled with disappointing Olympic performances: in January 2009 at just 23 years old, the swimmer left the pool and put her career on hold. “I don’t know what I’m going to do with my life, but I won’t have that pressure anymore”remembers Laure Manaudou in the documentary dedicated to her by Canal+. Then in a relationship with Frédéric Bousquet, she moved to the United States, far from the cameras, became pregnant and even completely interrupted her training. I gained 23 kilos during my pregnancy. It wasn’t very easy to accept my body at that time.because I have never been self-conscious in my life. Seeing your body change is a little disturbing.”says Laure Manaudou.

The swimmer gave birth to her first child on April 2, 2010, a little girl named Manon. Enough to give new meaning to your life. “I became a mother at 23. For me, it has always been… I was going to say in my goals, but in my life choices”she says. She wanted five children, she will ultimately only have three. Which doesn’t stop her from being a happy mother! It is also the love of a child which is very natural and without expectations.
