Red cap screwed on his head, face framed by hair and a white beard as abundant as each other, mischievous eyes… At 87 years old, Gérard Lattier has lost none of his splendor. And although he admits that he can no longer see very well and moves around with the help of a wooden cane that seems much too big for him, he still has a prolific verb and doesn’t need to be asked when it comes to tell about Ardèche, the country of his childhood and the “little people” he met there. With his singing and sunny voice, he likes to tell the stories that he has painted and that we never tire of listening to, stories that he himself gets from loved ones who were kind enough to tell them to him.

In the middle of the exhibition dedicated to him at the Château, the contemporary art and heritage center of Aubenas, he is, according to his own expression, “a bit of a prophet in his country”: “I am happy that people are interested a little to me, to be recognized while I am still alive.
