Aged 32 at the time of his tragic death, he was born with cerebral palsy, blindness and had difficulty walking. Although he had regained some of his abilities thanks to several operations and therapies, his mother, Shelley Sykes, was unable to get him out of the cottage he lived in, on the family property, when the ashes began to set the roof on fire. . After trying to reach the emergency number 911 in vain, the latter took her car to go to the nearest fire station. When she returned with help, her son had died of asphyxiation.

On the social network X (formerly Twitter) Shelley Sykes posted a moving text, remembering “a wonderful son, born July 29, 1992″on the birthday of his mother and grandmother. Despite the pain and difficulties linked to her multiple pathologies, she explains that Rory was always enthusiastic about traveling alongside her, “from Africa to Antarctica“. “He will be incredibly missed by his mother, his pet peacocks Edgee and Mickies, and all his online fans around the world.” concludes the message.
