Jean-Luc Petitrenaud told by his friend from , chef Christian Etienne

The starred chef Christian Etienne had become close to Petitrenaud since their first meeting in the last century. “He was a bon vivant, for whom the meal was an almost religious celebration. Eating, for him, was above all sharing in conviviality. And he liked to laugh, obviously. He has been a fantastic ambassador for our professions over all these years.” entrusts Christian Etienne to Provence.

Ventoux as a red thread

“Since the 90s, we saw each other at least once a year, for shows or for fun. Often, we went together to Mont Ventoux, to the Reynard chalet.”

Of his accomplice with high words and bucolic poetry, Christian Etienne also praises the simplicity: “I made him a garlic frisee with croutons and he was the happiest of men.” And rewind the thread: “I remember going to , Place du Trocadéro, with Reine Sammut for “Les Journees du Gout”, which Jean-Luc (Petitrenaud) had initiated.”

An open book

In 2005, Jean-Luc Petitrenaud published the book Gourmet pedestrian in i.e. routes that covered the city of the Popes but also its neighbor Villeneuve-lez-Avignon. The journalist-host-columnist remained a true prescriber, whose advice was followed by many epicureans.

On the terrace in Avignon

Christian Etienne, who was called by Louise, the daughter of Jean-Luc Petirenaud, following his death, expresses his deep sadness. “We saw each other last June, he came to eat at home, on the terrace, with all his friends. We prepared him some Pieds packages, which he loved“.

That day, the feast brought together, around Jean-Luc Petitrenaud, the gang of uncle eaters, Michel Philibert, Philippe Parc, Robert Brunel, Bruno d’Angelis, Serge Chenet, Michel Meissonnier, Christian Etienne and Ange Esposito.
